I'm 80 and have used many different types of knife and tool sharpeners over the years. I like Smith's 2-step knife sharpener for my kitchen knives, but it doesn't do serrated knives and my hands are getting shakier over the years. The design of the base on this unit is rock solid and my left hand is well back from the blade as I sharpen. The adjustable angle pull-thru does my standard kitchen knives plus the adjustable angle feature allows me to do pocket and hunting knives. The included chart for the different type of knives assures that I use the correct angle for each knife type. The separate slot for the serrated knives is a nice touch. The ceramic and carbide rods are even replaceable and reasonably priced. I was happy enough with the sharpener that I ordered a second one for a nephew who bakes bread and fishes in his spare time. He's going to love that he can also use it to sharpen fillet, pocket, & hunting knives, and various-size hooks.
